Heart-on-a-chip @ UC Berkeley

An heart-on-a-chip model developed at UC Berkeley

Using human iPS-derived cells combined to tissue bioengineering, Dr Huebsch and Prof Healy realized an heart-on-a-chip in 2016. The authors from UC Berkeley realized a Micro-Heart Muscle combining both Engineered Heart Muscles and cardiospheres. In this µHM system, iPS-cardiomyocytes showed better responses to drug treatments compared to 2D models. This new approach strenghten the promising roles for oragn-on-chips models in toxicology and drug testing.
