ASTEROID project, a multiorgan toxicity and efficacy test platform for personalized medicine & drug development

Explore how the asteroid project aims at resolving the technological bottlenecks for drug development & personalized medicine

ASTEROID, Cherry Biotech’s organ-on-chip platform, aims to curb animal testing and speed precision-medicine drugs from lab to patient.

Objectives

  •  Finalize the development of the Asteroid project platform from a viable demonstrator (TRL6) to a system complete and qualified in an operational environment (TRL8)

  • Develop and enrich the Cherry Bio AppStore, our catalog of new 3D cell culture protocols, with new bio-applications for distribution

  • Qualify and market our Asteroid project platform for research use only (RuO) and, in the long term, develop the platform as companion diagnostic (CDx)

Our Role

As project sole partner and leader, Cherry Biotech will ensure project implementation. The Asteroid project will further develop and qualify the multiorgan toxicity and efficacy test platform with KOL partners. The pathway to deployment is divided into 3 interconnected work packages:

  • Work Package 1: Final design Asteroid multiorgan toxicity and efficacy test platform
  • Work Package 2: Development of RUO organ model kits
  • Work Package 3: Project management and administration

Expected Results

A ready-to-market fully completed and qualified platform including hardware and software, made available to solve the most common scientific and industrial bottlenecks in existing 3D culture systems for preclinical drug development and precision medicine

A catalog of validated, in-house biological model protocols available through Cherry BioAppStore, designed to serve as a foundation for future outsourced development of fit-for-purpose (FFP) protocols through collaborative user engagement

Development of the platform as CDx and finalizing the commercialization strategy
